2007 Awardee: George Jackson
Mr. Jackson has been a major force in Metro DC dance for many years. He has been a critic, mentor, supporter, advisor, and organizer. He attends numerous performances, helps many chorographers, is a brilliant writer, and is ever present and ever ready to help. Washington and the metro area would not be the same if George Jackson had not been there to help, cheer, critique, and support. Many have benefited from his activities and presence, and many more will do so in the future. He does all this with humility and integrity, and a strong passion for dance. He is one of a kind, and should be honored for his vast impact on dance in our community.
Founder's Award for Innovation in Dance
This award recognizes an individual or organization for breaking new ground, exploring new processes or approaches, or using existing knowledge in a new way during the Awards year. The 2007 award will be given by MDCDA Founder Cheles Rhynes, and future awards will be given by the prior year's winner, with final approval by the MDCDA Selection Committee. This award is not eligible for public nomination.
