El Teatro de Danza Contemporanea de El Salvador (TDC)
Established in 1994 in San Salvador by Directors Miya Hisaka Silva and Francisco Castillo, TDC is distinctive as the first professional dance company in the history of El Salvador with a diverse repertoire of classical, contemporary and indigenous works. TDC originally united artistic leaders with a common vision for dance as well as the restoration of their country after a 12-year civil war. Because of this unique history, TDC uses dance: to preserve their history/culture; for self-expression; the development of human dignity; and cultural exchange. TDC's powerful, passionate and elegant repertory reflects a distinctive Central American aesthetic with an expressive and exuberant style. "Infused by the passion of living, the Company gives soulful meaning to the term expression dance." (Washington Post) "With compelling simplicity, freshness, directness in dancing, powerfully in the moment...physically sumptuous..." (New York Times). Photo by Enoch Chan.
